Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common in kids. They happen when bacteria (germs) get into the bladder or kidneys. Vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is a condition in which urine flows backward from the bladder to one or both ureters and sometimes to the kidneys.
Signs of UTI in Children
An infection may be mild or make the child moderately ill or very sick.
- Complain of pain while passing urine.
- Go to the toilet more often.
- Accidentally wet their pants.
- Wet the bed at night.
- Feel unwell.
- Lose their appetite.
- Have a high temperature.
- Lower tummy (Abdominal) pain
- Side of back pain
- Young children and babies with UTI are often sick with a fever and may be irritable and unsettled.
Primary vesicoureteral reflux
When that flap valve doesn’t work right, allowing the backflow of urine. This can affect one or both ureters.
Secondary vesicoureteral reflux
When there’s a blockage at the bladder that causes urine to push back into the ureters.
