Urodynamic Testing or study is a specialised screening test performed Dr Ani. The goal of urodynamics is to understand the function of the lower urinary tract (bladder, sphincter, urethra).
In the majority of the cases, Dr Ani uses non-invasive tests to understand LUT function. These include our bladder voiding diary, uroflowmetry or bladder scanning in association with the paediatric continence physiotherapists.
In more complex cases such as neurogenic bladder or exstrophy, Dr Ani will perform a cystomanometry.
A Urodynamics Study may be undertaken in the following circumstances:
- Incontinence
- Frequent urination
- Sudden, strong urges to urinate
- Problems starting a urine stream
- Painful urination
- Problems emptying your bladder completely
- Recurrent urinary tract infections
Cystomanometry procedure
During the cystomanometry procedure, a flexible, thin plastic catheter is then slowly inserted through the urethra and into the bladder. Measurements will then be taken of how much, if any, urine remains in the bladder and bladder pressure.
